He was going to school like his peers when the accident, which killed the girl on the spot, happened.

"I was going to school in the morning. I greeted the girl who was standing with the boy by the roadside. They were standing next to the pedestrian crossing. Busia man faults police for not helping after accident

The young man said he saw the driver run away after the incident instead of slowing down or helping his schoolmates.

He also bashed the police officers who, since their arrival, had done little concerning the matter.

"They have been here since morning but have not done anything. They are just standing here. Students have been dying along this road for a while now. We buried another yesterday who died in an accident. Today another is dead, and another is in the hospital. What is that?" he angrily asked as residents backed him.

Witness narrates trailer accident along the Busia-Malaba road

Another witness narrated how the accident involving a long-distance trailer happened in the morning.

"It was around 7:45 am. There was a trailer which was at high speed, and the headlights were on at maximum brightness. When it approached the bump, the driver tried to brake. Unfortunately, the trailer twisted. The back of the trailer, which is detachable, hit a student. When the driver tried to correct the trailer after it slid, it entered a ditch.
These incidents have been common here. It is not the first time. If we were to count the number of accidents we've had here, they must be over 50. This could be the fourth accident this year alone," he explained.
