Pakistan urges UN to act on Kashmir, slams India's lies

Pakistan has strongly condemned India's 'lies and recycled distortions' over Jammu and Kashmir, calling on the United Nations to take decisive action to resolve the long-standing dispute in line with Security Council resolutions.
Responding to India's statement at the UN, Asif Khan, a representative of Pakistan's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, said that India continues to peddle falsehoods each year in an attempt to mislead the international community.
'Each year, India comes to this august forum with a recycled script of distortions. Today is no different,' Khan said, emphasizing that the UN not only has the right but the obligation to discuss the Kashmir dispute.
He reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is not, and has never been, an integral part of India, describing it as an internationally recognized disputed territory whose final status must be decided through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN supervision, as mandated by several UN Security Council resolutions.
'India itself brought the matter to the Council, yet now refuses to honor its solemn commitments under international law and the UN Charter,' he noted.
Citing international legal frameworks, Khan pointed out that the right to self-determination is enshrined in the 1960 Declaration on Decolonization, the UN Charter, and key international covenants on civil, political, economic, and social rights.
Highlighting the grim situation in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Pakistani diplomat said India maintains one of the world's densest military occupations, deploying nearly 900,000 troops against an unarmed civilian population.
'For decades, India has attempted to label the just struggle of the Kashmiri people as terrorism. In reality, India needs to introspect on the causes of the widespread resistance in the occupied territory,' he stated.
Khan said India's 'backtracking' on its UN obligations, coupled with grave human rights violations - including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, sexual violence, demographic engineering, and mass incarcerations - has intensified the indigenous freedom movement. He added that since August 2019, India has accelerated a settler-colonial project in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
He accused India of sponsoring and exporting terrorism in the region, saying, 'While it masquerades as a victim, the truth is that India is the principal sponsor of state terrorism. It has financed and directed terrorist proxies such as TTP, BLA, and the Majeed Brigade, whose attacks have killed thousands of innocent civilians in Pakistan.'
Calling India's claim of being the world's largest democracy 'hollow,' he said the RSS-BJP regime has institutionalized Islamophobia and turned minority persecution into state policy, a reality well-documented by international human rights organizations.
Khan further warned that India's 'reckless conduct' has endangered regional peace and stability, citing unprovoked aggression against Pakistan earlier this year, which targeted civilians, including women and children. Pakistan, he said, exercised its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, responding only to military targets and preventing further escalation through restraint and diplomacy.
'India's denials and distortions cannot erase the truth: Jammu and Kashmir remains a disputed territory,' he asserted. 'The people of Kashmir have waited more than seven decades to exercise their UN-mandated right to self-determination. Pakistan will continue to expose India's hypocrisy, oppose its state terrorism, and stand firmly with the Kashmiri people in their just struggle for justice, dignity, and freedom.'
