Regent seeks Ekiti gov’s intervention in community crisis

Princess Omobolaji Adeniyi, the Regent of Ijesa-Isu Ekiti in Ekiti State's Ikole Local Government Area, has expressed concern about actions by certain community members that threaten to disrupt the town's stability by undermining law and order.
The regent appealed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji to intervene to prevent chaos and anarchy in the community by calling the perpetrators, who she described as “powerful politicians,” to order.
Speaking alongside members of the Obanla-in-Council at a press conference held at the palace on Saturday, Adeniyi refuted the alleged suspension of Olusegun Akiti, the Eleje of Ipole Ileje in Ijesa-Isu, calling it "a scheme to create unrest in the community."
She stated, "We aim to tackle several long-standing problems in this community."
Last week, a radio broadcast announced the indefinite suspension of High Chief Olusegun Akiti, the Eleje of Ijesa-Isu Ekiti, by an unspecified group.
We were taken aback by the announcement. I urge all Nigerians and every native of Ijesa Isu Ekiti to kindly ignore this information.
That kind of incident didn't occur. There was absolutely no suspension. Should a suspension be considered, certain procedures must be followed.
An Obanla-in-Council must follow specific protocols before any chief can be removed from their position. Regarding Ijesa-Isu, High Chief Olusegun Akiti holds the title of Eleje of Ileje. Abiodun Ogunsakin is the Baale of Ipole Ileje.
The acting leader stated that the town had experienced a period of instability prior to her taking office following her father's death, and assured that security forces were monitoring and managing the situation.
Even prior to my appointment as the town's regent, which occurred after my father's passing, the community had been grappling with some complex problems.
Initially, I didn't anticipate it would decline to this extent.
Law enforcement officials at both the municipal and provincial levels have been notified and are managing the issue effectively.
The regent expressed his hope that the situation would not lead to any acts of violence.
The acting ruler requested government action to soothe rising tensions.
“I am appealing to the state government to please come to our aid to arrest this matter, to make sure that this set of people trying to disrupt the peace, unity, and harmony of this town are called to order,” she said.
Akiti, claiming he was properly appointed as the chief and leader of his Ileje community in Ijesha Isu through an official letter, questioned the legitimacy of his suspension by certain individuals, arguing it lacked proper procedure.
The Eleje council members affirmed their dedication to maintaining peaceful relations within the community.
“We are peace-loving people, hardworking and committed to promoting and working for the success of our community, local government, and state.
Residents should continue with their daily routines and agricultural work.
He recommended that any signs of trouble or intimidation caused by troublemakers and criminals be promptly reported to the relevant local officials and police departments.
