Nigeria’s foremost serial digital entrepreneur and Chairman of Zinox Group, Mr. Leo Stan Ekeh, has called for deeper adoption of artificial intelligence and digital systems in healthcare delivery, saying the country possesses the capacity to set global standards in medical innovation.

Ekeh made the remarks during a recent visit to Save A Life Mission Hospital in Port Harcourt, a medical institution renowned for integrating technology into healthcare delivery. He disclosed that he had been invited several times by the hospital’s chairman, Dr. Richard Okoye, but only managed to schedule the visit after two years.

“When I finally stepped in, I knew this was no ordinary hospital,” Ekeh said in a statement to The PUNCH. “Once you enter, you find an ecosystem built on innovation, technology, and passion for saving lives. With innovative ideas from hospitals like Save A Life, AI and God, I am confident I will live up to 120 years.”

He noted that although the exterior of the building may not immediately reflect its sophistication, the interior houses world-class technology and medical equipment. “This hospital operates with an integrated database system and competes favourably with global healthcare institutions,” Ekeh said.

Save A Life Mission Hospital has become one of Nigeria’s foremost digitally advanced health facilities. While many medical centres across the country still rely on conventional practices, Dr. Okoye has built a hospital fully powered by digital systems. From patient records to diagnostics, every detail is integrated into a centralised database, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and reliability comparable with leading hospitals in Europe and the United States.

Describing Dr. Okoye as a “miracle doctor”, Ekeh said the physician’s real achievement lay in his use of innovation to address Nigeria’s healthcare challenges. He pointed out that the hospital’s digital systems could improve health outcomes by more than 60 per cent while reducing inefficiencies that often drive Nigerians abroad for medical care.

These innovations, he explained, are designed to reduce the workload on medical staff and free them to focus on complex cases and research.

Importantly, these tools work effectively in rural communities with limited access to doctors and an unstable power supply. They also operate in Nigeria’s major local languages, including Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa, making them accessible to a wider population.

Ekeh said his visit reinforced his belief in Nigeria’s untapped potential. “Nigerians can lead anywhere in the world,” he said. “With common sense and technology, we have all the capacity needed for success.”
