Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, on Thursday, launched the Advisory Council focused on Technology, Innovation, and the Digital Economy. He showed confidence that the council's suggestions will assist in forming digital policies, directing investments, and enhancing the state's innovation environment.

The governor highlighted that the council plays a vital role in his administration's plan to leverage technology as a driver for economic development, employment opportunities, and the growth of new prospects for the citizens of Osun State.

At the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony for council members held at the EXCO LOUNGE, located at the state Secretariat in Abere, the governor stated, "Our administration has launched the State ICT policy, which is currently being implemented."

Adeleke, who was advised by Dr. Biyi Odunlade, the Commissioner for Political Affairs and Inter-Governmental Relations, nevertheless stated, “This Council is arriving at the appropriate moment, and we are confident that your knowledge will assist us in transforming these foundations into lasting systems and tangible outcomes. Your suggestions will influence digital policies, direct funding, and enhance our innovation environment.”

I call on all members to commit themselves with devotion and honesty, as this task extends beyond advisory roles and is more about influencing the future of Osun. The choices we make now will define the state's competitiveness over the next ten years.

I also recommend that you cooperate closely with ministries, organizations, youth groups, and the private sector. Technology flourishes through teamwork, as no one entity can accomplish it by itself.

Collectively, we have the power to build an environment that fosters learning, innovation, and business growth. To the members of this Council, the pledge you are about to make serves as a reminder of the confidence entrusted to you. It demands professionalism, dedication, and a promise to advance our State. As Governor, I pledge the complete backing of this administration. We will offer the necessary conditions, resources, and collaboration to ensure your success.

As of 2022, Osun does not have a Tech innovation policy. "Our government has created and implemented the Osun State Tech Innovation Policy. We initiated the fibre optics broadband project, which is currently being reviewed for long-term viability."

Osun enacted the National Startup Act to boost the growth and empowerment of technology entrepreneurs and local tech hubs, fostering innovation and shared prosperity. Osun was the second state to implement this law. Our government expanded Google mapping coverage in Osun from under 50 percent to more than 60 percent. Our Google mapping volunteers did an excellent job and continue to work in the field.

He stated, "The establishment of this Council is a key element of our long-term plan to develop a robust digital economy, and this group of specialists will assist the State in shaping policies, initiatives, and collaborations that will enhance our digital capabilities. Your responsibilities will involve providing guidance to the government on innovation, digital competencies, data management, new technologies, and the evolving nature of employment."

In his own statement, the Special Adviser for Innovation, Science, Technology, and the Digital Economy, Hon. Azeez Badmus, urged council members to be faithful and committed to justice, as well as to the trust placed in them.

He urged them to apply their digital expertise to enhance the state's value and simultaneously advance its technological development.

Additionally, Segun Solomon, a member of the advisory council, stated that one of the main objectives of the Program is to advance the digital economy and technology.
