APC North-Central Presses Plateau Gov to Join Party Again

The All Progressives Congress, North-Central Forum, has once more called on Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to switch allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling APC.

A fresh appeal was issued on Thursday in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, at the forum's third-quarter meeting of the year, and appeared in a press release signed by its Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga.

As per the statement, Zazzaga mentioned that the forum was the initial political group to openly encourage Governor Mutfwang to switch allegiance from the PDP to the APC, based on political analysis and forecasts conducted before and after the 2023 general elections—most of which, he noted, have since come true.

He pointed out that the group's political activism resulted in several beneficial results, such as the initiative to create the North-Central Development Commission, the effort to bring back the APC National Chairmanship position to the North-Central from the North-West, and the backing of President Bola Tinubu's policies.

He further mentioned that the forum had also regularly urged political leaders from different parties to become part of the APC.

Among all our communications, one that is notable is our ongoing request for Governor Caleb Mutfwang to align with the APC—a suggestion we first made in 2023.

"Although other political parties are now starting to repeat the same message, the truth is that we were the first to issue this statement due to our political wisdom, investigative understanding, community organizing efforts, and dedication to enhancing party systems," he added.

He also encouraged the governor to align with his administration's slogan, "The Time is Now," by becoming part of the APC.

"All is now prepared for him to proceed. His positive actions and worth will be more recognized and effective if he becomes part of the APC," he said.

Zazzaga stated that the forum's ongoing popularity stems from Mutfwang's forward-thinking approach to leadership, which, according to him, matches the APC's focus on development.

Being part of the APC will align him with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has demonstrated sincere interest in Plateau State and has been striving for its development.

"It will also enable Governor Mutfwang to work more efficiently with his colleagues in the North-Central region who are members of the APC, to achieve common objectives for regional and state development," he added.

The head of the forum also noted that the majority of lawmakers from Plateau State belong to the APC, emphasizing that coordination between the executive and legislative branches of government would improve governance and enable more effective solutions to security and development issues.

In the meantime, Zazzaga disregarded opposing opinions inside the APC that were against Mutfwang's possible switch, labeling them as having insufficient political vision and planning.

Meanwhile, in October, Mutfwang stated that he was facing pressure to leave the PDP and join the APC.

"It is not false that they have also exerted pressure on me. However, I informed them that only two individuals would have the authority to permit me to switch parties. One is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the public," he stated during a speech at an event held at the Government House on October 27.

The situation arises as the PDP keeps losing important members, such as governors and National Assembly representatives, to the APC before the upcoming general elections.

Former PDP governors who have switched allegiance to the APC include Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State, and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.

It is thought that Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, is in the process of finalizing plans to leave the PDP and join the APC.
