The head of Mobilisation for the Obedient Movement, Morris Monye, has stepped down from his role.

Monye revealed his resignation through a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, stating that although he had a strong interest and invested his own money, the movement's weak organization and disappointing results in the recent Anambra election had made his position "untenable."

Nearly a year has passed, and most of our short, medium, and long-term goals remain unachieved. I will not be involved in optics or any related tasks.

"The weak performance in the Anambra election has also rendered my position unsustainable," he stated.

Monye revealed that he personally financed nationwide mobilization initiatives, such as travel, local organizational support, voter education campaigns, and logistics, without receiving any financial assistance from the movement's leadership or its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

"No funds were provided to the Mobilisation Directorate. There isn't even a bank account for the directorate. In fact, Mr. Peter Obi has never inquired about our activities in mobilisation — no communication, nothing," he said.

Monye stated that he and his companies have endured ongoing persecution by supporters of the government.

"It's a position that draws attention to you. I've had to stay quiet to avoid discouraging others or seeming like I'm complaining, but it has affected me and my family, who find it hard to grasp," he expressed sorrowfully.

Monye highlighted his key achievements within the movement, such as developing an online registration system for Obidients, reactivating inactive support groups, setting up regional and local government offices, and launching the Obidient NextGen university campus network.

He mentioned that he also collected money for the winning candidate in the Anambra state governorship election and started a program to provide polling unit agents with inexpensive body cameras to ensure election transparency, a initiative he encouraged his successor to finish.

"The subsequent director needs to take this forward. We haven't finalized it yet," he mentioned.

Monye stated that he had handed in his resignation to Obi, the National Coordinator, Dr Yunusa Tanko, and his state coordinator.

He mentioned that he would now concentrate on his enterprises and self-improvement, with intentions to enroll in a business program at Oxford or Cambridge University, while maintaining his support for effective governance and electoral changes.

Giving guidance on the movement's future, Monye encouraged Obi to hire expert advisors, finance the departments, and implement a performance-focused system for responsibility.

"You can't manage a campaign based solely on goodwill. This isn't 2023 anymore. The factor of surprise has disappeared," he warned.

He ended by referring to his time in the Obidient Movement as a "privilege," but mentioned that it was now "time for someone else to take up the responsibility."

Monye is among the key figures in the "Obidient" Movement, a community-driven political group focused on the former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party candidate for president in the 2023 election.

It began with a wave of energetic youth and gained momentum via social media.

The cause gained momentum by presenting Obi as a thrifty, ethical leader able to tackle Nigeria's long-standing problems of graft and financial mismanagement.

It attracted a wide range of supporters, such as young voters and the Nigerian diaspora, who came together with the phrase "Take Back Nigeria," using sites like X to enroll new voters and contest the influence of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

Although it started with some energy, the movement encountered major challenges, highlighted by the LP's poor performance of 1.5% in the November 2025 Anambra governorship election.
