- Axel Tuanzebe has filed a lawsuit against Manchester United, accusing them of medical negligence in relation to a significant financial claim.
- The defender, who moved to Burnley at the beginning of this season, made only 37 first-team appearances following his progression through the youth system.
- The assertion pertains to a time frame starting in July 2022, shortly before he departed the club to go on loan to Stoke.
Defender Axel Tuanzebe from Burnley has taken legal action against his childhood club, Manchester United, citing supposed medical mismanagement.

Tuanzebe was considered the next promising academy talent at Manchester United, but he faced injury issues and ultimately departed without leaving a significant mark.
Nevertheless, he featured in the Premier League with Ipswich during the previous season and is now representing new entrants Burnley this season.
Why did Axel Tuanzebe struggle at Manchester United?
Tuanzebe debuted for Manchester United's senior team in their FA Cup fourth-round win against Wigan when he was 19 years old in January 2017, after two strong seasons with the reserve squad.
He received the title of Young Player of the Year for the 2014-15 season and was recognized as Reserve-Team Player of the Year in 2016/17.
The defender led the club at all levels but played just 37 times from 2017 to 2021, with his last match being the Europa League final against Villarreal.
Physical ailments and intense rivalry limited the defender's ability to reach his full capabilities. Nevertheless, he performed admirably when needed, like in the notable Champions League game against PSG in 2020.
He had a period of time on loan at Aston Villa, Napoli, and Stoke.
Why is Axel Tuanzebe taking legal action against Manchester United?
As reported by Sky Sports, a claim titled 'Tuanzebe v Manchester United Football Club' was submitted on July 9 at the High Court in London, with paperwork indicating the case falls under 'Clinical Negligence - Part 7 Claim - Medical Advice'.
The primary claim in the legal case involves a left-sided pars fracture, a spinal injury in the lower region that occurred in January 2020. This injury resulted in 'considerable pain and distress'.
The issue turned into a persistent problem for the athlete in July 2022 after he injured the same part of his lower back on the right side.

What is Axel Tuanzebe seeking?
He is taking the club to court for over £1 million (KSh 169 million), arguing that the club did not provide sufficient rest following his injury. Moreover, it is reported that the club did not refer him to a specialist sports spinal surgeon at the time of the initial injury.
He missed 195 days during his last season at the club before moving to Stoke in January 2023. He is expected to play for DR Congo in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
How the African World Cup qualifiers function
He is a member of the November team that will take part in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers following their failure to secure a direct qualification.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo will face Cameroon on Thursday in the semi-final, and should they advance, they will encounter either Nigeria or Gabon in a bid to move forward to the next round.
The champion from Africa will compete in the final qualifiers next year.
