Genocide Interview: Piers Morgan Calms Tuggar

On Thursday, British journalist Piers Morgan assured Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar that his latest appearance on "Piers Morgan Uncensored" will be broadcast in its entirety, easing the minister's worry that partial editing might distort his remarks regarding the reported Christian genocide in Nigeria.

Tuggar had previously shared on his X account, urging for the complete and unaltered airing of his interview, cautioning that partial editing might misrepresent Nigeria's image and promote "misleading stories and claims of religious persecution."

"I was featured on @piersmorgan's main show, @PiersUncensored, where I provided an accurate and informed viewpoint on the deceptive stories and claims of religious persecution in Nigeria," Tuggar wrote.

He mentioned that his answers during the interview were backed by "verifiable information," despite not matching some "pre-existing opinions."

"Nevertheless, for the sake of honesty and openness, it is crucial that the entire interview be broadcast exactly as it was recorded, without any alterations or chosen exclusions. The truth about Nigeria should not be twisted to align with outside prejudices," he stressed.

Replying to Tuggar on X, Morgan stated: "It appears you're becoming anxious, Foreign Minister. Rest easy, we will broadcast your remarks entirely. The program is titled Uncensored for a purpose. Whether individuals accept what you mentioned is yet to be determined."

By the time the press was published, the full interview had not been made available on the show's official channels.

Tuggar, who recently met with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, in Berlin, emphasized that it is "impossible" for the Nigerian government to target any citizen due to their religion.

He emphasized that Nigeria's constitution ensures freedom of religion and supports the rule of law, calling any government-backed discrimination "unimaginable."

Fears regarding claimed religious oppression in Nigeria came back into focus this year when the U.S. Congress examined suggestions to label the nation as a "country of particular concern" and apply penalties.

In April, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a report that rejected allegations of a "Christian genocide," labeling it as a hazardous and deceptive story.

"Instead of continuing a story that deepens splits and encourages more conflict, experts should embrace a more detailed and fair perspective that acknowledges Nigeria's ethnic and religious situations and the various initiatives being made to foster peace, respect, and living together," the report mentioned.

Even after the government provided multiple explanations, on October 31, US President Donald Trump once again labeled Nigeria as a "country of particular concern," alleging that the Federal Government has not adequately prevented attacks on Christians.

In the meantime, the South-East Youth Assembly and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Youth Wing have urged President Trump to collaborate with Nigeria's leader, Bola Tinubu, in tackling the nation's security issues, instead of resorting to threats of military action.

The chairperson of the South-East Youth Assembly, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu, along with the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Youth Wing, Mazi Chika Adiele, issued the statement at a press briefing held in Awka on Thursday.

They stated: "We are truly distressed by the instability that has jeopardized the foundation of our nation due to Islamic extremists. After discussing with respected leaders and other relevant parties, we acknowledge the steadfast dedication of the President of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in addressing these critical security issues and other socio-economic problems."

As leading youth organizations, we firmly hold the view that for nations such as Nigeria, the most critical support required from the global community is a strategic military partnership in conjunction with the President and Commander-in-Chief of Nigeria's Armed Forces, aimed at eliminating these violent groups from our nation.

Nigerian people are entitled to peace and stability, and we hold the core values of democracy—freedom, fairness, and justice—in high regard. Hence, we strongly support the sovereignty of our cherished nation and President Tinubu. We urge an immediate private meeting with the National Security Advisor, Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu, to present our information as an expression of our devotion to the country. We advocate for a complete transformation of the nation's security system according to international benchmarks. Lastly, we ask the youth from the South-East to stay composed and always watchful.
