Datoko (U/E), November 21, 2025 – The Ghana Chamber of Mines, along with Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited (CNML), has provided sanitary pads to 500 female students in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

The action was a component of the Purple Peach project, a significant effort led by the Ghana Chamber of Mines, designed to support menstrual health, respect, and fair educational access for girls in underprivileged areas.

During a short event held in Datoko to distribute hygiene supplies, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, highlighted the importance of assisting girls in remaining in school and realizing their maximum potential.

Dr. Ashigbey mentioned that the program extended beyond just providing sanitary pads, emphasizing that its goal was to ensure "no girl is left out due to a natural biological process," referring to menstrual health as an issue of dignity, self-esteem, and empowerment, and highlighting the importance of effective menstrual hygiene management in supporting girls' education.

"Development for Ghana and Africa will only occur if we guarantee that women also have equal chances to reach the highest positions," he stated.

The Purple Peach Initiative was included in the Chamber's larger Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, which aimed to supply free, secure, and eco-friendly menstrual hygiene products to girls, along with instruction on menstrual health and gender equity.

Dr. Ashigbey emphasized once again that promoting menstrual health is essential for reaching Sustainable Development Goal five, which focuses on attaining gender equality, and mentioned that "when we eliminate the silence and stigma associated with menstruation, we enable girls to succeed, learn, and take leadership roles."

Dr. Ashigbey stated that the project highlights the Chamber's dedication to improving the well-being of women and girls, especially in communities near mines, adding, "This effort demonstrates that mining is not just an extractive activity but also a driver of social change."

Dr. Ashigbey mentioned that through the Ghana Chamber of Mines' Tertiary Education Fund, more than $2 million has been allocated to educational facilities, scholarships, research funding, and training initiatives since 2019.

He also referenced inspiring accounts from those who benefited, such as a young woman who was able to attend university following her father's passing, and another who moved from being a community volunteer to a full-time mine worker with the help of the industry.

Dr. Ashigbey praised CNML for its ongoing commitment to the Upper East Region, highlighting its effective collaboration with local officials and community leaders in areas such as education, health, vocational training, and economic development.

He urged local residents to collaborate closely with the mine to realize the region's complete developmental possibilities, highlighting teamwork, skill enhancement, environmental conservation, and a collective effort to combat unauthorized mining.

Mr. Ahmed Dasana Nantogmah, the Chief Operating Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, stated that the organization is dedicated to backing efforts that foster respect, learning, and access to opportunities, as this is what genuine responsible mining entails.

He referred to the Purple Peach initiative as one of the Chamber's longest-standing corporate social responsibility programs, which has been active for almost ten years, supporting rural communities and school children.

Mr. Qi Xuanya, the Vice President of the CNML, emphasized the company's dedication to the region's growth and urged for increased cooperation to enhance the health and education of youth in the area.

He voiced optimism that the action would significantly aid girls in maintaining menstrual hygiene and remaining in school.

Madam Christiana Ayinezoya Azure, the Talensi District Director of the Ghana Education Service, praised the Ghana Chamber of Mines and CNML for their contribution, emphasizing that this act would enhance school enrollment, particularly among female students.
