Hull City and Derby County are among several English clubs preparing for a January battle over Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

As reported by Football Insider, both teams are keeping an eye on the Nigerian player as the winter transfer window approaches.

Derby County come into the break in good shape after securing five straight victories that placed them in tenth position in the Championship, whereas Hull City remain in fifth place following a positive start to the season.

Both teams made substantial changes to their rosters during the summer, with Derby County making significant investments under John Eustace and Hull City going through a challenging time characterized by financial restrictions before finally strengthening their squad.

Additional hiring is anticipated in January, and Football Insider states that Durosinmi is becoming a common interest.

The report indicates that Oxford United are also showing interest, while the League One club Huddersfield Town are evaluating what it refers to as a bold effort to secure his signing.

Durosinmi's contract with Viktoria Plzen will expire this summer, making him available at a lower cost. Football Insider reports that an offer of approximately £5.7m could potentially secure the striker's move to England in January.

The Nigerian assassin is in the last six months of his deal with Plzen, and he might be obtainable for a discounted price of £5.7 million (€6.5m) in January.

The striker started his professional journey at Box2Box FC in Nigeria and then headed to Europe, joining MFK Karvina in 2022. He subsequently moved to Viktoria Plzen six months later, paying approximately €850,000, following just a few appearances in Slovakia.

He quickly made a significant impression in the Czech top division, emerging as one of the league's most notable strikers before his development was halted by two anterior cruciate ligament tears in 2023 and 2024, which kept him sidelined for nearly a year and a half.

Although facing some challenges, the 22-year-old has made a solid comeback in the 2025–26 season, netting 11 goals across 24 games. His total consists of two goals in the Champions League and two in the Europa League, coming from four matches in each tournament.

He has netted 33 goals and made 10 assists in 80 matches with Viktoria Plzen, after scoring 10 goals and delivering six assists in 39 games for Karvina.

This is the second instance in recent weeks where Hull City and Derby County have been associated with the same player, following reports that both clubs were considering a potential loan deal for Leeds United's forward Harry Gray.

Their common interest in Durosinmi supports the idea that each club is looking for additional attacking players as they strive to remain in the playoff race.

Hull City are likely to focus on a long-term solution in the forward position, as Oli McBurnie is nearing the end of his career, whereas Derby County already possess strong attacking options but are still interested in improving their squad. The next few weeks will decide if either club moves to pursue their interest when the transfer window reopens in January.
