Human remains discovered in Mainehas been recognized as a mother of two who was last seen walking without shoes.
The body of Tomis Hoyt, 36, was discovered last month in Blaine, but authorities confirmed on Wednesday that they have now officially identified the remains.
Although the exact cause of her death is still unknown as the investigation continues, Hoyt was last seen walking along a Maine road in July.
She was last spotted by her relatives on July 13, barefoot on Robinson Road inMarsHill was reportedly without any funds, as stated by the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office.
Security camera video captured Hoyt walking along the road without shoes, wearing an orange-pink tank top that was torn.jeans and no shoes, WAGM reported.
A week following her vanishing, her family shared with the media that she had maintained sobriety for almost ten years but had faced challenges with her mental well-being and substance use.
They urgently appealed to the public, asking anyone who was sheltering Hoyt to come forward and pleaded for her safe return.
Hoyt's final update on July 13 featured a petition calling for changes to Maine's State Child Protective Services due to 'unfair child removals and breaches of parental rights.'

Her sibling, Rici Hoyt, stated onFacebookI made an effort. I shouted. I pleaded for assistance. I dialed every contact I could locate — pretrial, the sheriff's department, Caribou Police — informing them that my sister required medical attention and safety.
I repeatedly informed them that if anything happened to her, it would be their responsibility. They assured me she would be safe and that all arrangements were in place for her to receive assistance. After that, they stopped answering my calls.
If the police had taken action when I saw her, when she was walking barefoot and asking for assistance — if the system hadn't let her down repeatedly — we might not be in this situation today.
I was familiar with my sister. I understood her needs. And I was aware that this county, this system, wouldn't safeguard her. Those who were meant to assist didn't. And now we're waiting for confirmation of what I have feared from the start.
She subsequently shared that it had been "confirmed — the body discovered in Blaine belongs to my sister, Tomis."

No words can adequately describe this level of suffering. My heart is broken. For many months, I have clung to hope, prayed for a different outcome — but now, that hope has vanished, and only sorrow is left.
Rici verified that the investigation into the cause of her sister's passing is still in progress and mentioned that her family is "awaiting answers" while they organize the funeral.
Tomi will never be remembered. Her essence, her laughter, her soul, and even her determination — they will continue to exist within each of us who cherished her. May you rest in peace, my wonderful sister. You are deeply loved, and greatly missed.
