Several notable individuals, including Edo State Deputy Governor Mr. Dennis Idahosa; Alemma Oziruva Aliu, a correspondent for Edo State Vanguard Newspapers; and business leader Chief Leemon Ikpea, were honored with the Edo Icons Award of the Year 2025.

The prize, which is currently in its fifth iteration, was created to recognize outstanding achievements in both the public and private sectors within Edo State, and to motivate those who receive it to strive for even greater accomplishments.

At the presentation event held in Benin City, Moses Ebahor, the organizer of the Edo Icons Awards, stated that the award was created "to honor Edo individuals who have achieved outstanding success and to encourage them further."

Ebahor mentioned that during the past five years of the award, he had not encountered most of the recipients.

The Edo Icon Award serves as a way to honor Edo individuals across the globe. Since it was first introduced in 2021, when we recognized Edo Broadcasting Service on its 30th anniversary, we have been holding it annually. Many of the recipients are those who are making an impact in their respective fields, whether in the public or private sector.

"The present governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, was honored with the 'Edo Personality of the Year 2022'. He later became a senator, and we recognized him as 'Edo Man of the Year 2024' prior to his becoming the governor of Edo State. The event's chairman, Chief Leemon Ikpea—who is also a philanthropist—was awarded 'Edo Man of the Year 2025', while the Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, received the title of 'Edo Personality of the Year 2025'.

“Our responsibility is to honor the Edo people who are excelling. We do not present awards to criminals or individuals with questionable reputations. The recipients of our awards are people we have not met personally, but we conduct research to understand their contributions. For instance, the Vanguard reporter we recognized—we had no prior acquaintance with him, but we observed his work at Vanguard.”

"We present honors to individuals in security, education, commerce, journalism, and every aspect of human endeavor. We investigate people's backgrounds prior to any action," he stated.

From his side, the Vanguard reporter based in Edo State, Comrade Ozoruvba Aliu, who received the title of 'Edo Icon Print Media Personality of the Year,' expressed that he was deeply moved upon learning about his nomination, and mentioned that this acknowledgment acts as a motivation to achieve even more.

I am truly overwhelmed by this award because our work is often unappreciated. If you produce a report and someone isn't satisfied, they assume you were paid to write it. The moment you write something that benefits them, they express gratitude. This is the nature of our job.

"I was taken aback when I received a call and learned that the group had selected me for an award. No matter what we accomplish, we must be aware that someone is observing. I thank the event organizers, and I would like to express that this is a motivation to achieve even more," he stated.
