Given this, we have no issue with the dismissal of the affected individuals. It is clear that discipline is a fundamental aspect of any organization, and without it, progress is just an illusion. For an agency such as the DSS, which is tasked with ensuring Nigeria's internal security and its governance system, there must be zero tolerance for acts of indiscipline. It is alarming to consider that the dismissed personnel allegedly broke rules and regulations without facing any consequences, showing disrespect for their oath of office. We hope that current members of the agency will exercise caution and carry out their duties with the highest level of patriotism and professionalism. The serious security situation throughout the country demands nothing less.
We call on the leadership of the DSS to guarantee that there is no gap in the agency's functioning. It must hire individuals who understand their responsibilities as DSS staff. Moving ahead, the agency should also implement more thorough background investigations for new hires, ensuring only those prepared to uphold their official oath are hired. We also encourage the Presidency to keep providing the agency with all necessary resources to fulfill its duties and earn the pride of Nigerians. This is the correct approach.
