NADDC Empowers Youth Through CNG Skills Initiative

The head of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, Mr. Joseph Osanipin, has stated that the Federal Government is dedicated to developing a new wave of skilled Nigerian technicians who can aid the country in shifting towards cleaner and more environmentally friendly transportation options.

Osanipin made this statement during his welcome speech at the opening ceremony and launch of a specialized mechatronics training program focused on the repair and maintenance of petrol and compressed natural gas tricycles for young people and technicians in Oyo State on Wednesday. The initiative is a joint effort between NADDC, DAG Industries Limited (the producers of Bajaj tricycles), and the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Youth Initiatives (Monitoring and Delivery).

He stated that the training marks "another significant step in our shared goal of enabling Nigerian young people with hands-on, industry-focused skills that will equip them for changing prospects in the country's automotive and renewable energy industries."

He mentioned that the worldwide transition from traditional fuels to CNG is not just a technological issue, but also involves people, expertise, and confidence.

As we adopt this clean energy transition plan, it's crucial to understand that awareness and education form the foundation of success in this process," Osanipin stated. "When people are educated about the economic, environmental, and safety advantages of CNG, its acceptance becomes more straightforward. This fosters trust and reassures residents that CNG is a secure, dependable, and cost-effective option.

The head of NADDC highlighted the importance of carefully and accurately managing CNG systems, underscoring the need to develop a team of skilled technicians capable of safely maintaining and servicing CNG-operated tricycles.

"This program will equip our young people with new abilities, creating opportunities for jobs and business ventures in the CNG supply chain," he further stated.

Osanipin pointed out that the NADDC, as the federal government body responsible for advancing the growth and development of Nigeria's automotive sector, is playing a key role in the nation's shift towards clean energy.

It is now essential to provide our young people and technicians with the technical skills needed to maintain these modern transportation systems," he stated. "This program is not just about developing capabilities but also serving as a pathway to innovation, job opportunities, and independence.

The individuals he mentioned have been thoroughly chosen to take part in rigorous, practical sessions that include engine diagnosis and repair, fuel system control, safety when working with CNG parts, regular maintenance, and business advice for starting a workshop. Attendees will be awarded certificates after finishing the program to improve their job prospects and their capacity to open service centers.

Emphasizing NADDC's comprehensive plan for human resource development, Osanipin revealed that the Council has started setting up Automotive Training Centres in each of Nigeria's six geopolitical regions. A total of 21 centers are currently being developed, with several already finished and equipped with modern facilities.

"Some of these ATCs are already functioning as CNG conversion centers," he disclosed, noting that the project would encourage global best practices, guarantee safety, and improve the expertise of local technicians.

The head of NADDC also praised the Oyo State Government for its assistance and warm reception, calling the collaboration essential for the program's achievement. He also recognized DAG Industries Limited for its dedication to local production and technology sharing, as well as the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives for turning government policy into real results at the community level.

Urge participants to make the most of the chance, he mentioned that the abilities they will gain are "not only technical but also life-changing."

"You are being trained to become the next wave of qualified professionals, business owners, and innovators in Nigeria's automotive and renewable energy sector," he said to the participants.

In conclusion, Osanipin reiterated NADDC's dedication to shaping Nigeria's automotive future via innovation and empowering the youth. "As one, we are creating a solid base for a robust, creative, and sustainable automotive sector fueled by Nigerian skills and creativity," he stated.
