Police Charge Woman for False Rape Accusations Against Husband

In August 2024, a woman reportedly sounded the alarm, claiming her husband, Ozioma Okonkwo, had allegedly raped two of their daughters, and she later filed a report with the police in October 2025.

The authorities in Enugu State havearraignedA 29-year-old woman who falsely alleged that her husband raped their two daughters.

The woman, Chisom Okonkwo, appeared before the Magistrate Court in Enugu State in early November, as stated by a police officer who did not reveal the specific date.

In August 2024, the woman reportedly sounded the alarm, claiming her husband, Ozioma Okonkwo, had sexually assaulted two of their daughters, who were two and five years old.

Chisom, it was reported, later informed the police in the state, maintaining that Mr. Okonkwo had raped the two children.

According to the report, the police later apprehended the individual and held him in custody while investigating the claim.

Police detention

At the police station, Mr. Okonkwo was surprised to learn that his wife had filed a report against him.

In a video that has recently become popular on social media, Mr. Okonkwo refused to provide a written statement, arguing that his wife could not have made the accusation against him.

"No, no, no. There must be an error somewhere. Madam, are you certain that Ozioma filed this report against me?" a surprised Mr. Okonkwo questioned a female police officer, clearly uncertain about his wife's involvement in the accusation.

"My own children, whom I love dearly? My wife? No. It's not my actual wife," he said over and over, insisting on speaking with the wife to verify she had made the report before he wrote his statement.

Chisom can't simply awaken and deceive me. No. It isn't Chisom.

Certain law enforcement officers could be heard in the background of the video instructing him to provide a written declaration either denying or acknowledging the alleged violation.

False allegation, charges

PREMIUM TIMES obtained information from police sources, stating that after Mr. Okonkwo maintained he did not commit rape against his daughters, the authorities arranged for a medical check-up of the minors.

"The test results showed that the children were completely untouched, contrary to the wife's assertion," said a police officer who requested anonymity, according to this newspaper.

Furious with the results, the police submitted a two-count accusation of criminal defamation and spreading false information against Chisom.

Count one states: "That you, Chisom Okonkwo, at some point during the month of August 2024, near Adoration Junction, across from Dan-Legal Hotel, Emene, Enugu, within the authority of this honorable court, defamed the character of Okonkwo Ozioma by publicly shouting that he violated your two daughters, which led to him being subjected to hatred, scorn, and mockery, thus harming his reputation."

The police informed the court that the offense violated Section 323 and is subject to punishment under Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State, Nigeria, 2004.

The second charge states: "That you, Chisom Okonkwo, on October 27, 2025, at the State Intelligence Department (SID), Enugu, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, provided misleading information to police investigators that Okonkwo Ozioma violated your two daughters, resulting in his arrest and detention, with knowledge that the information was untrue, thus committing an offense under Section 154(1)(a)&(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004."
