The Chancellor caused intense speculation about her political future in July when she was seen crying in the House of Commons while sitting beside SirKeir Starmer.

Ms. Reeves later mentioned that she was handling a 'personal matter' at the time she became visibly emotional during Prime Minister's Questions.

But it also occurred soon after she and Sir Keir were compelled to abandon most of their attempts to reduce welfare due to a significant uprising byLabour MPs.

Her emotional condition caused unrest in financial markets, with images of her distress fueling speculation that she could be stepping down from her position in the Treasury.

Now, over four and a half months later, Ms. Reeves is getting ready to present her second oneBudgetas the UK's initial female Chancellor.

In an interview with The TimesBefore her upcoming financial report, Ms Reeves expressed her disappointment that her 'challenging moment' was broadcast.

Many individuals have experienced a workday where they enter the restroom and weep, or tell their supervisor, 'I'm heading home early,' she mentioned.

Regrettably, my challenging moment occurred on live television. I usually attend PMQs — I considered it my responsibility to be present — but if I had the chance to relive that day, I wouldn't have entered the chamber.

Regarding the causes of her distress in July, Ms. Reeves stated: "If this weren't being recorded, I would share what was happening, but I'm not revealing that to the public."

The Chancellor mentioned that "people aren't interested in reading about my recipe for Yorkshire puddings or what truly brought me to tears."

Perhaps they might," she remarked. "But what they truly desire to know is that they can rely on me with their funds, to manage the economy.

I do not belong to the public spotlight. I am not part of the entertainment industry. I am the Chancellor. If you want individuals to get involved in politics, you must keep in mind that they are human beings.

I'm a mother to two children. I'm also a spouse and a daughter. This life wasn't handed to me, and I'm simply striving to give it my best.

Ms. Reeves also discussed the measures she and her husband, senior civil servant Nick Joicey, have taken to shield their two children from the demands of her role.

There are more troubling situations, I suppose, than residing in Downing Street," she remarked. "However, it's not typical, and children desire a sense of normalcy.

We don't have the radio playing during breakfast. We aim to keep political topics from them.

Ms. Reeves also mentioned she is "tired of people explaining how to be Chancellor to me" as she gets ready for her upcoming Budget on November 26.

She mentioned that some of the criticism was driven by sexism from 'boys who now write newspaper columns', stating: 'I understand that I have a target on me. You can see this in the media; they constantly go after me. It's very tiring.'

But I won't allow them to bring me down by attacking my character or my self-belief. I've dealt with many of these individuals before and I'll keep doing so.

Following a turbulent change of heart regarding increasing income tax, Ms Reeves is set to unveil a variety of additional tax increases on Wednesday, as she works urgently to address a multi-billion pound shortfall in public finances.

The Chancellor stated that the UK cannot keep "muddling through" and needs to adopt "a new approach" regarding the economy.

"Loan levels are excessively high, yet they cannot be reduced immediately," she stated.

Public services are in disarray, yet we don't have ample funds to invest in them, so we must make the most of the resources we have.

We can't continue like this and manage by chance. We need to make some choices to follow a new route.

In addition to the retreat on welfare reductions, the Chancellor has also had to partially undo her contentious decision to eliminate winter fuel payments for seniors.

Regarding Labour's performance since coming into power in July 2024, Ms Reeves acknowledged there had been "a few avoidable mistakes," but she also stated, "We are striving to succeed."

The Chancellor and Sir Keir are facing significant attention before the Budget, as doubts continue to circulate regarding both of their political destinies in Westminster.

Mr. Reeves' father, Graham, stated: "Rachel understands that it's a part of the role, but the pressure has been constant, and much of it is also quite distressing and unjust."

She will get through it because she has always been a highly determined and diligent individual. However, some things affect her more than she appears to show.

He stated, "I am her father, not her political consultant, so my only advice would be to keep in mind that she has her own family, which is very significant to her."
