Russia unveiled a humanoid AIrobot during a much-anticipated demonstration that concluded in failure when the machine stumbled and crashed onto the stage.

The robot's debut in Moscowwent wrong on Tuesday when the robot - thought to be Russia's first AI-powered - seemed to fail and fell over.

The bot, called AIDOL, wobbled onto the stage proudly to the Rocky theme song in front of approximately 50 journalists, then moved to the left and waved at the crowd.

Nevertheless, the wave seemed to make AIDOL lose its balance, causing it to stagger and then fall to the ground.

The collapse resulted in parts of the machine dropping and making noise across the stage, after which it was retrieved by the organizers. A black cloth was lifted to conceal the robot from the viewers as it was pulled away from the stage.

Organizers stated that the incident was caused by lighting and calibration issues, as reported by journalists who were present at the event, theNew York Times reported. 

"At the beginning, there was a moment of silence," said Dmitry Filonov, editor-in-chief of Edinorog Media, who was present at the event, in a text message obtained by the outlet.

"Then they started clapping to demonstrate their backing," the message went on.

The head of AIDOL, Vladimir Vitukhin, stated to the Russian state news agency Tass that the robot is still in the learning phase.

"I hope this error will become a lesson," he said, according to the New York Times.

Filonov wrote on his Substack that the robot was anticipated to experience movement challenges, and it would not be 'flawless from the start.'

Although Filonov described it as a 'fundamental model' intended for future enhancements and modifications, the bot is among the rare ones that have been assigned a facial appearance.

The programmers informed him that the company had put significant resources into the robot's appearance and technology to make it more like a human.

"I believe they simply had bad luck," he remarked.

As stated on the developer's website for AIDOL, the robot is designed to walk, manipulate objects, and interact, with the aim of becoming a presence in both households and commercial settings.

Only last year, Elon Musk presented a group of $30,000 Tesla Optimus robotscreated to assist with domestic taskswhich created a stir in the market among rivals.

The robots were observed moving rigidly in a line across the stage during the exhibition, with Musk stating that the bots could help by serving beverages, walking pets, mowing grass, fetching groceries, or simply act as a companion.

"Tesla Bots are initially designed to take over tasks that are repetitive, dull, and hazardous. However, the long-term goal is for them to assist millions of homes, performing duties like cooking, mowing lawns, and providing care for the elderly," Musk wrote in an article published in the China Cyberspace magazine.

Earlier this year, Musk shared a video showcasing one of the robots performing a dance in his most recent advancements. 

The billionaire intends to introduce Optimus in 2026, with each unit priced between $20,000 and $30,000.

Musk addressed an audience at a technology conference in Saudi Arabia last year.forecasted that there might be up to 10 billion human-like robots on the planet by 2040. 

During a Tesla earnings call in April, Muskadmitted that Trump's tariffs on China were creating challenges for the robot's development.

In May, in reaction to higher tariffs, China halted the shipment of 'heavy rare earth metals' and magnets produced from them to any nation.

China currently accounts for the full global production of heavy rare earth metals and 90 percent of the magnets manufactured from them, while the remaining 10 percent of magnets are produced using Chinese raw materials.

Musk mentioned that these magnets are essential for developing the strong, compact motors that enable Optimus's arms to move.

Musk stated: "This is more influenced by the supply chain, as China currently mandates an export permit for sending items containing magnets anywhere, so we are addressing this issue with China."

He added, "China seeks guarantees that these are not utilized for military purposes, which clearly they are not."

They're simply entering a human-like robot. So that isn't a weapon system.

Similarly, according to the South China Morning Post, specialists doubt that Tesla can produce Optimus at a cost of $20,000 without utilizing China's extensive and efficient supply networks.

He Liang, the founder and chairman of Yunmu Intelligent Manufacturing, a company in Suzhou that produces humanoid robots, stated to the publication that up to two-thirds of Tesla's components rely on Chinese suppliers.

Liang stated, "Without the Chinese supply chain, the expenses on their side would probably be at least 50 percent more."
