Ruto's Kitui Stop on Ukambani Tour Day 2

President William Ruto is set to proceed with his development tour of the Ukambani region today, featuring a busy agenda throughout Kitui County.

He is set to initiate, examine, and oversee a collection of infrastructure developments designed to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic progress.

Ruto is scheduled to tour five constituencies in Mwingi North, Mwingi West, Kitui South, Kitui East, and Kitui Central, as part of the government's broader initiative to boost rural progress.

As per the official schedule, the Head of State will start the day in Mwingi North, where he is set to review the Kamuw’ongo–Kandwia Road, a vital corridor connecting isolated areas and supporting commerce in the northern regions of Kitui County.

He will next go to Mwingi West to examine the current projects on the Kwasiku–Migwani–Mbondoni Road, then travel to Kitui South for the formal opening of the Ikutha–Mutha Road, expected to create new economic prospects for farming and mining areas.

In Kitui East, he is set to unveil the Chuluni–Nzombe–Mwitika road, a significant initiative designed to enhance access to markets, schools, and medical facilities in the eastern part of the county.

In the later part of the day, Ruto is set to chair the opening of the newly finished Ithookwe Stadium and the renovated Kitui Airstrip in Kitui Central, which are seen as key initiatives aimed at boosting sports, tourism, and investment opportunities within the county.

His trip to the region is important as it is the stronghold of opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

The trip to Kitui comes after Ruto's activities in Makueni County on Wednesday, during which he inaugurated the Mikuyu Bridge in Kilome Constituency, introduced the Emali–Ukia Road in Kibwezi West, and reviewed the Wote Affordable Housing Project in Makueni Constituency.

He also stopped at different locations to speak with the local people.

In his speech, he emphasized that his administration remains committed to focusing on initiatives that significantly enhance living conditions, especially in regions that have been slower to develop.

Local officials and community members are anticipated to greet the President enthusiastically, with numerous people describing his visit as an indication of renewed national focus on the Ukambani area.

Ruto pledged to take all necessary actions to make sure the Kamba area is included in the government for the upcoming national election.

He mentioned that it was regrettable that the region has been in opposition for too long, resulting in delayed development while other areas move forward.

"Throughout, forward and backward, left and right, up and down, this area cannot remain unchanged again," he told the residents in Kibwezi.

(By any means possible, this Ukambani will never again be part of the opposition)

The President acknowledged that he had somewhat played a role in the region's political isolation in the past, stating that he had overlooked it and let his rivals "infiltrate and deceive" the population into opposing him.

Without specifying identities, Ruto seemed to speak to certain leaders, informing locals that he was committed to regaining the area's political allegiance.

"Let them know that Ruto has arrived and stated that Ukambani is exiting the opposition to align with the government," he said, sparking enthusiasm among the crowd.

The Kitui engagements signify the second day of Ruto's multi-county tour through the Eastern region, highlighting his government's emphasis on infrastructure, housing, and youth development as central elements of Kenya's grassroots economic growth strategy.

He is scheduled to be in Machakos County on Friday.

On Saturday, he is scheduled to conduct a meeting of leaders.
