A 11-year-old boy was led into aFloridaprison after he is accused of creating a 'kill list' that targeted other students at his school.
Karson Curry was taken into a cell on Monday following his threat against Highbanks Learning Center in Deltona, according to the Volusia County sheriff.
The youth, with his arms cuffed behind him, lowered his head while being taken from a sheriff's car and into the police station.
Law enforcement concluded that Curry does not have access to firearms, yet they proceeded to set an example of him.
He is now confronted with a felony accusation of writing a threat to take a life.
Sheriff Michael Chitwood of Volusia County has a record of leading children who posed a threat to their schools in public walks and appears unlikely to cease this practice.
At least eight children, among them three 11-year-olds, were taken into custody and publicly embarrassed by the department through an online suspect walk in the past two months.
Sheriff Chitwood wishes that visible demonstrations of accountability will 'emphasize to students and parents that such threats will lead to criminal charges,' the department stated.
Curry is a pupil at Highbanks Learning Center, a learning initiative that offers educational support in a 'highly restrictive' setting for students in grades six to twelve.
The initiative focuses on changing behavior and improving social abilities, as stated on the county school district's website.
Pupils are directed to the learning center by local authorities and school administrators according to their specific academic requirements.
It remains uncertain which individual Curry is said to have targeted on the list, and whether he will encounter any consequences from the educational institution.
The Daily Mail has contacted the school, local district, and sheriff's department for their response.
Curry's arrest occurred just two weeks following the detention of an 11-year-old student at a different educational institution in Volusia County, who was reportedly involved with a suspected kill list.
Aahriyanna Reed was alleged to have written down names at her desk at Riverview Learning Center on October 27.
Even though she informed officers that she was "just joking," she was taken into custody and escorted from the police vehicle into a jail cell.
The young girl faced a second-degree felony charge for writing a threat to kill and for breaching her probation, according to the sheriff's office.
In a similar case, Jesse McIntyre and Caiden Sanford, both 11 years old, were recently taken into custody for making threats against their individual schools.
McIntyre is said to have shared a TikTok video that included a threat to attack Campbell Middle School in Daytona Beach. He referenced school staff members in the comments section of his post.
Deputies from the sheriff's office took the boy into custody at his family's residence on October 5.
Even though they concluded that he, like Curry, didn't have access to weapons, the police still arrested him.
In September, Sanford created a 'kill list' on his desk at Southwestern Middle School, according to officials.
He is said to have written the list due to feeling 'angry and having a tough day'.
When he was taken into custody, an incident that was also shown in a perp walk posted on the sheriff's department's Facebook page, authorities indicated that threats made at schools have become excessively common in today's world.
"If you're fed up with this, consider how the 99 percent of students, parents, teachers, and school personnel must be feeling," the department stated.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has escorted multiple other students in recent weeks, including individuals aged 13, 14, and 15.
Some warned online that they would shoot at their schools, while others provided detailed plans with specific dates for their supposed attacks.
A pupil warned they would "harm someone severely" in a social media update that included two gun emojis.
Another one even took the step of recording himself loading a firearm and then shared the video, along with a rap track about murder, with classmates.
The footage caused several students to be too frightened to attend school.
A total of 2,058 incidents of school violence were documented throughout the 2024-25 academic year, as per national statistics.Educator's School Safety Network.
The quantity of threats is more than four times higher than the real count of violent events documented throughout the school year.
Data indicates that the number of violent threats during a specific school year has declined over time, yet the educational nonprofit observed that the frequency of violent occurrences remains greater than it was prior to the coronavirus pandemic.
Experts proposed that the reduction in violent threats could be due to the introduction of harsher penalties for making such threats.
However, the Educator's School Safety Network also mentioned that it is "far more probable that the number of threats received has not truly decreased, but instead that threats are seen as routine and thus less likely to be reported."
