To maintain its authority overAIregulation, the Trump administration is exploring executive measures that might lead the Justice Department to clash with states enacting their own technology regulations.

The directive also requires several US agencies to review current state AI regulations that might conflict with the announced executive measure.

The document is released one day afterFirst Lady Melania Trump cautioned a group of soldiers regarding the 'dystopian' risksabout the emerging technology and the need for regulations to safeguard minors.

"To prevail in the AI conflict, we need to educate our upcoming generation, as it is America's students who will guide the Marine Corps in the years ahead," the first lady stated to military personnel and their families at Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina, on Wednesday.

She cautioned that the AI revolution is the most critical societal transformation since the creation of nuclear weapons, and that the US cannot afford to fall behind in the AI competition.

The disturbing subject caused a surge of reactions online, with certain social media users criticizing the bleak message as 'dystopian.'

On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt mentioned during a press conference that she has not observed the president using artificial intelligence in person, even though he backs the technology.

The White House had been advocating for a 10-year pause on states' authority to oversee AI, aiming to incorporate it into Trump's Big Beautiful Bill during the summer.

Nevertheless, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene publicly criticized the clause in the legislation, claiming it violates state sovereignty.

I strongly oppose this, and it is a breach of state rights," Greene wrote in June. "We have no idea what AI will be able to do in the next decade, and allowing it unrestricted freedom while limiting states' abilities could be extremely risky.

Shortly thereafter, the Senate revised the legislation and lifted the moratorium.

The action disturbed Sacks, who has recently been pushing for changes akin to the 10-year restriction on AI regulation.

"We should allow Donald Trump to draft these regulations," Sacks mentioned recently on the All-In podcast which he co-hosts.

The AI advisor did not mock Republican legislators for blocking the proposal, yet it emphasized that the present strategy is ineffective.

"The Republicans hold power in Washington, and the states are making numerous poor choices regarding AI," he stated.

The proposed plan states that states failing to comply with the reported executive order could face the loss of federal grant funding.

A major priority for the White House is the risk that, if states are allowed to oversee AI independently, it might lead to a fragmented system where each of the 50 states establishes separate regulations for AI firms to follow.

This may lead to 50 distinct regulations, submission deadlines, and other complicated procedures for the rapidly growing industry striving to rival China.

"It's illogical for model companies to have to report to 50 different states, and 50 separate agencies within those states, each having its own definition of what must be reported, along with varying deadlines," Sacks mentioned on his podcast.

He also cautioned that significant Democratic areas, such as New York and California, might create their own rules that are then embraced by other states.
