YABATECH to Distribute 8,654 Diplomas on Convocation Day

Students from Yaba College of Technology in Lagos will now be presented with their diplomas during the graduation ceremony.
The head of the institution, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, announced this on Friday during a press conference conducted in the academic boardroom prior to the college's 37th graduation ceremony.
Abdul mentioned that after graduating students finish their clearance process, they will receive scrolls with their certificates on the day of the graduation ceremony.
Abdul stated, "Our students will receive their diplomas on the day of the graduation ceremony. We will conduct a symbolic awarding at the graduate stand, while other students who have completed their requirements will collect their certificates from their respective schools."
Those days are gone when the scroll was always blank. Our students will now carry their scrolls with their certificates attached.
He stated that 8,654 students will receive the institution's degrees during the graduation ceremony on November 20, with Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, serving as the Special Guest of Honour.
A total of 291 students are graduating with honors, 2,434 received an Upper Credit, 4,403 completed with a Lower Credit, and 1,526 will obtain their diplomas with a Pass grade.
Ani Faith, from the Department of Office Technology Management, achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.9 out of 4.0 and was recognized as the top graduate.
In addition to other events before the graduation ceremony, Senate Minority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele is scheduled to give the convocation speech on the topic: “Entrepreneurship Development in the Digital Age: Using Technology to Promote Employment and Economic Growth.” The event will be led by the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele.
Abdul stated, "The concepts arising from this lecture will reflect Yaba College of Technology's input towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's plan for economic diversification and digital advancement."
The Rector also revealed that during the convocation, Fellowship Awards from Yaba College of Technology will be presented to Senator Bamidele, Senator Solomon Olamilekan, and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul-Samad Rabiu.
These notable Nigerians have provided remarkable contributions to education, industrial management, and society as a whole. Their accomplishments in public service demonstrate the values, commitment, honesty, and excellence that we aim to cultivate in our students. We are honored to welcome them into the Yaba College of Technology community.
"These are three distinguished Nigerians who have significantly contributed to the country's digital and economic sector. These people represent leadership, creativity, and dedication that can motivate our students to strive for excellence in technology and business," he stated.
Commenting on President Bola Tinubu's approval for YABATECH to be transformed into a university, the Rector stated that although the process has started, there is no specific timeline for the completion of the upgrade.
Abdul stated, "We have fulfilled our responsibilities here; we attended the National Assembly to support the proposal, and we possess everything necessary to transform into a university."
At YABATECH, more than 200 individuals with doctorate degrees are part of our staff, and the infrastructure is also available for our use. We are hoping and observing fasting that this becomes a reality soon.
