Angela Okorie apologises to Mercy Johnson, Ned Nwoko over online fued
Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has publicly apologised to her colleague, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, and to lawmaker Ned Nwoko, putting an end to a months-long feud that saw repeated online confrontations and verbal attacks.
The conflict had taken a bitter turn in June when Okorie, during an Instagram Live session, accused Johnson of spiritual wrongdoing and made unverified claims about her health.
“I got a news recently that Mercy Johnson is not feeling well and I honestly feel for her and I want the best for her.
“The kind of sickness they told me she has is not something I would ever want to wish (on) any of my enemies and today, I’ve forgiven her and I will not want to say anything that has to do with her,” she said during the June 3 livestream.
She also claimed Johnson was using “church words” that did not reflect her true character and insisted her colleague should apologise for “all the wrongdoings.”
The dispute expanded to include actress Regina Daniels, who is married to Senator Ned Nwoko.
Following Daniels’ response in defence of Johnson, Okorie reacted harshly and issued personal attacks that included unflattering references to Nwoko.
However, in a Instagram post on Friday, Okorie extended what she described as an “olive branch”, admitting her words had been hurtful and acknowledging that she had spoken from a place of emotion and pain.
She wrote,” I am human, and when my emotions take over, I speak from the heart, often saying things directly as they come to me, especially when I felt hurt.
“Once I’ve expressed myself, I forget about it and move on, but I realise now that my utterances whether uttered from the place of pain or not was hurtful, some events that has happened these past days made me realize that I should have done better.
“I feel so sorry having realized how this gets to you, Mercy.”
Okorie appealed to Johnson to find a place in her heart to forgive, while also stressing the importance of her colleague’s emotional stability.
“Your mental health is very important now and ever & I wouldn’t wish you and your family worse, that’s not my nature, and you know it.
“Do find a place in your heart to forgive me,” she added.
Okorie also addressed the online misinformation that had trailed the feud, stating she too had been a victim of betrayal and malicious rumours.
“I’ve also been the target of lies, betrayal, and unwarranted attacks. Bloggers have spread false information, and people have created videos filled with blatant lies.
“The betrayal has been overwhelming, but I forgive everyone who has hurt me and leave them to face their own conscience.”
She extended her apology to Senator Nwoko, expressing regret for how her response was interpreted and citing their past rapport.
“Furthermore, my sincere apology also goes to Senator Ned Nwoko, I understand that, my anger in trying to make a reply didn’t find you in a good state, it was as a reaction of an unprovoked bashing and attack that was blown out of proportion.
“I truly reacted in a way I now recognise wasn’t pleasant. I cannot intentionally disrespect you for whatever reason.
“To buttress this, I remember being part of your political campaign, the one you brought ZuleZoo, myself & other artists.
“I have also honored your family’s yearly children’s carnival when invited; All these have made me realize that being at peace is better than war or fight, I deeply regret my actions and am sorry,” Okorie wrote.
