Over KSh 163 million was raised on Saturday, September 20, during a high-profile fundraiser held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Nairobi, in support of the Eltabashi Educational Trust.

The initiative will channel the funds towards supporting ten Madrasas in Mandera county.

The event drew national attention with President William Ruto leading political, business, and religious leaders in what was described as a strong show of unity towards improving education in Northern Kenya.

What did Ruto say on the Mandera fundraiser?

Ruto said the country’s growth depends on how well children can access education, describing it as the foundation for equality, empowerment, and prosperity.

“We applaud the Eltabashi Educational Trust for its dedication to helping vulnerable children in Northern Kenya gain access to education,” the president remarked.

"The more education is made accessible to our children, the more empowered, equal and prosperous we become. We affirmed our collective commitment to education as the foundation of opportunity and progress," Ruto added.

Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan confirmed that the initiative had raised KSh 163,218,000, which will go towards supporting the ten Madrasas.

He expressed gratitude to all contributors, saying the gesture would go a long way in uplifting vulnerable learners.

“We thank Almighty Allah (SWT) for enabling us to raise these funds. Thank you, William Ruto, for your generous support,” he said.

Which leaders attended the fundraiser for Mandera madrasas?

The event attracted influential figures including Health CS Aden Duale, Governors Ahmed Abdullahi and Nathif Adam, Senator Ali Roba, MPs from Mandera, Garissa, and Wajir, principal secretaries, religious leaders, and representatives from the business community, youth, and women groups.

One of the standout moments was the contribution by Mustafa Brown, CEO of Browncop Security Limited, who pledged KSh 1.2 million.

Brown, a close associate of George Ruto and a young entrepreneur gaining visibility in philanthropic and corporate circles, was noted for his rising influence after his high-profile wedding earlier this year.

Joho, Murkomen contributions raise debate over mosque fundraiser

The fundraiser, organised at Weston Hotel, was aimed at supporting Islamic religious and educational institutions.

Murkomen contributed KSh 3 million in cash during the event, while reports indicated Joho pledged tens of millions.

The dinner brought together governors, national leaders and clerics, with sources noting that the total collection reached about KSh 120 million.

The large donations immediately sparked debate, with critics questioning the amounts given by public officials to religious projects.

The development came even as Ruto continued to face scrutiny over his own generous contributions to churches.
