The People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday urged President Bola Tinubu to implement firm measures to address the nation's insecurity, instead of making "symbolic" moves such as canceling his scheduled visits to South Africa and Angola.

The party stated that the country anticipated Buhari, as the head of the nation's military forces, to move to Maga in Kebbi State, where 25 female students were taken by militants.

The party claimed that if Tinubu occupied the front seat, the security agencies would be compelled to respond more swiftly against instability.

The declaration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to cancel his scheduled visit to South Africa and Angola represents the most recent and prominent instance of tokenism.

Although the choice might seem to align with the abduction of the Maga schoolgirls and the growing instability throughout the nation, especially in northern Nigeria, it is merely a superficial act and nothing more.

If the APC-backed presidency opposes this stance, we insist that President Tinubu temporarily move to Kebbi State and other areas experiencing armed conflict in Northern Nigeria.

"Such an action will not only push the security forces to take more determined steps in stopping the current violence, but will also raise the spirits of the soldiers at the front lines," said the party's National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, on Thursday evening.

The party highlighted that as the President and Commander-in-Chief, Tinubu, "should not remain comfortable in the Presidential Villa while 25 schoolgirls have been kidnapped and their location is still unknown."

Ememobong added, "He needs to show leadership by taking the lead, as genuine leaders do during times of serious national crisis."

The latest attacks in Kwara State reinforce our claim that insecurity and fear have turned into the everyday reality and new normal for Nigerians throughout the country. However, the APC-led government keeps making complete denials, justifications, empty promises, and other shallow actions like the President's canceled visit.

Without additional strategic measures, this trip cancellation will merely be another media spectacle designed to gain public support and empathy, instead of addressing the critical need to protect lives and property throughout Nigeria. If this were a political crisis (similar to the situation in Rivers State), President Tinubu would have utilized every available strategy and resource, both within and beyond legal boundaries, to resolve it.

We are formally informing the President and his administration that Nigerians have had enough of symbolic actions like expressions of sympathy and canceled trips. The country urgently needs strong leadership, strategic measures, and real support for the security forces, particularly those on the front lines, instead of superficial actions aimed at gaining political advantage.

The security of Nigerians should not be treated as a performance. Leadership needs to go beyond appearances and provide real, ongoing actions that rebuild public trust and safeguard lives and assets. This issue requires genuine commitment, not just symbols. The Presidency must step up or step aside for those who can.
