The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court's ruling that sentenced the head of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to life in prison.

This comes after a one-hour ruling by Justice James Omotoso on Thursday, during which the IPOB leader was found guilty of all seven terrorism charges brought against him by the Nigerian federal government.

Tribune Online reports that Kanu was sentencedsentenced to life in prison for charges one, two, four, five, and six rather than the death penalty after appeals to the court to show compassion in delivering justice.

Kanu received a 20-year prison sentence, with no possibility of a fine, for charge three, and a five-year prison term for charge seven.

JUDGEMENT

The Defendant appeared before this Court on a 7-count indictment that states as follows:

COUNT ONE

That you Nnamdi Kanu, Male, Adult, from Afaranukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, at times in 2021, being a member and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, a banned organisation, committed an act in furtherance of an act of

The act of terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its people, through a broadcast that was received and heard in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, with the intention of frightening the population and threatening that people will die, causing the entire world to halt, constitutes an offense under Section 1(2)(b) of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013.

COUNT TWO

You, Namdi Kanu, Male, Adult, from Afaranukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, at times in 2021, committed an act in support of a terrorist act against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its citizens. You made a broadcast that was received and heard in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with the intention of frightening the population. You issued a deadly threat stating that anyone who violated your stay-at-home order should write their will. As a result, Banks, Schools, Markets, Shopping Malls, and Fuel Stations located in the Eastern States of Nigeria remained closed for business. Citizens and vehicle movements in the Eastern States of Nigeria were halted within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, and you thereby committed an offence under Section 1(2)(b) of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 203.

COUNT THREE

That you, Nnamdi Kanu, male, adult, from Afaranukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, on various dates between 2018 and 2021 within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, declared yourself to be a member and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a banned organization in Nigeria, and that you therefore committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 16 of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013.

COUNT FOUR

That you, Nnamdi Kanu, male, adult, from Afaranukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, made a broadcast on various dates between 2018 and 2021, which was received and heard in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, in support of an act of terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its citizens, where you encouraged members of the public in Nigeria to pursue and kill Nigerian security officers, thereby committing an offense under Section 1 (2) (h) of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013.

COUNT FIVE

That you, Nnamdi Kanu, male, adult, from Afaranukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, made a broadcast on various dates between 2018 and 2021, which was received and heard in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, in continuation of an act of terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its citizens, where you incited members of the public in Nigeria to pursue and kill families of Nigerian security officers, thereby committing an offense under Section 1 (2) (h) of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013.

COUNT SIX

That you Nnamdi Kanu, Male, Adult, from Afaranukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, on various dates between 2018 and 2021 made a broadcast that was received and heard in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, in support of an act of terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Nigerian people, in which you instructed members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a banned organization, to create bombs, thereby committing an offence under section 1(2)(f) of the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act 2013.

COUNT SEVEN

You, Nnamdi Kanu, male, adult, from Afaranukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, on various dates between March and April 2015, brought into Nigeria and stored in Ubulisiuzor, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, a Radio Transmitter called Tram 50L hidden inside a container of used household items, which you declared as used household items, thereby committing an offence under section 47 (2) (a) of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C45, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

In fulfilling its responsibility to prove the case, the Prosecution presented five witnesses in the following manner:
