Kano Supports Oron for Kisumu Governor in 2027
The political atmosphere in Kisumu seems to be changing with the Kano group supporting Kisumu Central MP Dr. Joshua Oron for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Delegates from 13 Kano community clans gathered in Nyando on Thursday, expressing their collective backing for Dr. Oron, praising his enduring dedication to community growth and efficient service provision.
The elders stated that their choice was based on Oron's established history of advancing education, healthcare, and clean water access, which they noted started well before he entered political life. Elder Walter Aluoch, who addressed the council, mentioned that the community had collectively decided to support Oron for the highest county position.
"Within the Kano community, we have decided to back Dr. Joshua Oron," Aluoch stated.
He stated, “He has shown what genuine leadership entails, dedicating himself to serving others without seeking anything in return. Long before he entered politics, he was already making a difference in people's lives through health programs and educational assistance.”
Aluoch mentioned that although certain community members were also showing interest in the gubernatorial election, the elders had chosen Oron as their favored candidate."We have other sons such as Jack Ranguma and Ken Obura who are capable leaders, but our choice is influenced by their development history and reliability. Oron has remained with the people, and now the people are supporting him," Aluoch added.
The senior members also highlighted their dedication to the ODM party, which continues to hold significant influence in Kisumu's political landscape. They mentioned they would support Oron to secure the ODM nomination during the party's selection process.
Keziah Opondo, a female leader present at the gathering, commended Oron for his community-focused approach, referring to him as a modest representative of the people.
Dr. Oron has been with us for a long time prior to his entry into Parliament.He provided scholarships to schools, supplied hospitals with medical tools, and enhanced clean water availability for numerous families. That is the type of leader we seek, someone who prioritizes people."
"He isn't merely a leader for Kisumu Central; he is a leader for the whole county. That's why the Kano community and numerous others view him as the ideal person to propel Kisumu forward," she added.
Elder James Ochue mentioned that the community intends to contact every son of Kano who is keen on the competition to share the elders' unified stance.
"We will meet all our sons who wish to run and inform them that the community supports Oron. If they decide to proceed, that is their democratic right, but our decision remains firm," Ochue stated.
The senior members urged for solidarity and peace among the people, stating that conflicts might weaken their political power.
"If we act together, our strength and solidarity will secure the position. We are not merely supporting Oron; we are backing a development plan that serves every part of Kisumu," Ochue mentioned.
Other individuals competing for the position include Tom Ojienda, the senator from Kisumu, Mathews Owili, the deputy governor of Kisumu, Ken Obura, and Aduma Owuor. Ruth Odinga, the women's representative from Kisumu, has also shown interest in the seat.
