The governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has shown great satisfaction with being nominated by the LEADERSHIP Group for the Governor of the Year Award 2025, promising to value this recognition highly.
The governor, who praised the late founder of the LEADERSHIP Group, Sam Nda-Isaiah, for his vision in creating the organization, stated that he has observed the group's development from its early days to becoming a prominent voice not only in the North but also across the nation.
He addressed the gathering following the receipt of the nomination letter for Governor of the Year 2025 at Government House in Lafia yesterday.
Governor Sule stated that for a newspaper at the forefront to consider him for an award is no small achievement, while commending the organization for maintaining editorial integrity, which distinguishes it from others.
I genuinely appreciate your support and want to express my gratitude. I truly value this award.
I come across numerous awards daily, yet there are certain ones that I truly respect, and I have always looked up to the LEADERSHIP Award from afar. And now, you're informing me that I am among those honored. It holds great significance for me that you have acknowledged my work.
"I've witnessed individuals who pleaded before receiving awards; that's something I can't do. However, there are awards that I truly respect when people recognize someone and present them with an honor, particularly the LEADERSHIP, which is an organization I have always admired. I have consistently valued your reporting, documentation, investigations, and the manner in which you carry them out. Therefore, it means a great deal to me that you are bestowing this award upon me, and I sincerely appreciate your gesture," he said.
Governor Sule was especially pleased with the category chosen for the award, emphasizing that he felt accomplished as his work was being acknowledged, while also stating that the recognition would motivate him to achieve even more.
He criticized the decline of industries in the North, particularly the textile sector in Kaduna and other small businesses, which had previously provided jobs for many people in the region and beyond.
He observed that their downfall was among the elements contributing to the instability and other negative behaviors the region is currently facing.
He mentioned that his plan for industrialization aligns with the goals of the region's original leaders, who utilized the available natural resources to establish a base for tomorrow.
Governor Sule highlighted that in addition to the investigation of solid minerals, his government has also been focusing on agriculture to benefit the state and its residents.
He observed that Nasarawa was close to becoming a top rice producer, with 3,300 hectares dedicated to the crop, and expansion plans for the upcoming planting season.
Earlier, Mr. Mike Okpere, Vice Chairman of the LEADERSHIP Group, stated that the annual award aims to recognize leaders, individuals, and organizations that have made a positive contribution to society.
He mentioned that while Governor Sule was a versatile individual, the organization chose to recognize him for his outstanding contributions in a specific field, such as industrial development.
"At LEADERSHIP, our approach is to identify individuals and organizations that have demonstrated strong performance histories," he mentioned.
