Northern State Houses 57,000 Darfur and Kordofan IDPs in Two Camps

Al-Dabbah, Northern State, 13-11-2025 (SUNA) -- The Humanitarian Aid Commissioner (HAC) in Al-Dabba Locality, Dr. Kawthar Jaafar, stated that the number of individuals displaced due to the incidents in both Darfur and Kordofan has risen to approximately 57,000 within the state's two camps: Azhari Khalafallah Camp in Al-Afadd and Al-Dabba town.

She stated that the internally displaced persons (IDPs) faced extremely difficult conditions while traveling to Northern State as they escaped the abuses and violations carried out by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. Many arrived with shrapnel injuries, broken bones, and other wounds, while a large number of children are experiencing malnutrition, highlighting the critical need for specialized medical professionals, as some injured people require mobility devices.

Dr. Kawthir Jaafar informed the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) that 200 families arrived prior to the fall of El-Fashir, with the number later rising to 650 families, amounting to 32,000 people. She mentioned that additional arrivals are anticipated in the coming days, highlighting that 50,000 individuals left the situation in El-Fashir, while 7,000 others escaped from violence in Darfur and Kordofan.

As per Dr. Kawthar Jaafar, the initial stage involved distributing approximately 500 tents, with an additional 500 planned for the next phase. She mentioned that all necessary food, medical supplies, and long-term water sources are being arranged. The Northern State Water Authority has already started working on the water initiative.

Nevertheless, she mentioned that there remains no definitive strategy for the education of children who have been displaced, even though discussions and promises are taking place. The two camps accommodate around 250 children of school age and 310 preschool-aged children.

As per Al-Hassan Ibrahim, head of the Services and Emergency Committee at Azhari Khalafallah Camp in Al-Afadd, seven different committees have been established to manage camp activities, including areas like services, health, social work, legal assistance, media, and environmental management. He mentioned that various organizations have supplied several food baskets sufficient for a full month, as well as additional shelter and medical supplies, with Qatar Charity and Sadaqat being the primary contributors. The number of families currently residing in the camp has now risen to 152.

He mentioned that General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), had previously directed during his visit to the camp that water supply should remain uninterrupted. A high-quality borehole is currently being drilled in collaboration with the Northern State Water Authority.

In the meantime, Al-Bagir Okasha, the Northern State Minister of Culture and Information, commended the efforts of the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism for sending a media team to assess the situation of displaced individuals fleeing from militia attacks in both Darfur and Kordofan. He mentioned that the media encountered significant difficulties during the Battle of Dignity, and emphasized that the Northern State is ready to accept IDPs, vowing that the state will offer all essential services until they can return to their homes and every part of the homeland is freed from rebellion.

The state's Information Minister, the Al-Dabba Locality Security Committee, and the leader of the Popular Resistance, Azhari Al-Mubarak, hosted a formal meeting with the media group during its visit to the camps where people from Darfur and Kordofan have been displaced.
