The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has shown strong anger and serious worry regarding the kidnapping of six senior directors from the Federal Ministry of Defence, who were taken on Monday, November 10, 2025, on the Kaba-Lokoja highway while en route to Abuja for work-related tasks.

In a joint statement authored by the National President, Comrade Shehu Mohammed, and the Secretary-General, Comrade Joshua Apebo, the union referred to the event as a "shocking and discouraging assault" on public employees carrying out proper government duties.

As per the ASCSN, the victims, named Mrs. Ngozi Ibeziakor, Mrs. Emeribe C.A, Mrs. Helen Ezeakor C., Mrs. Ladoye C.A, Mrs. Onwuzurike J.A, and Mrs. Essien Catherine O., were all employees of the Command Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Ojo, Lagos, and were traveling to Abuja to take part in the promotion exams for Directorate-level positions within various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The union revealed that the Ministry of Defence has already deployed security personnel who are working to ensure the safe retrieval of the kidnapped officials. “We have maintained constant communication with the Ministry, and all required resources have been put into action to secure their release,” the statement confirmed.

Voicing frustration about the ongoing threats that civil servants encounter while on official trips, ASCSN has once again called for promotion exams and verification processes to be held at the state level, in order to reduce the risks linked to long-distance road travel.

"We have consistently recommended that the Federal Civil Service Commission decentralize promotion exams, rather than requiring employees to travel from various regions of the country to Abuja, even with the deteriorating security and poor road conditions," the statement said.

"From now on, we stress that all such official activities must take place within the states to protect the lives of public service workers," the labor leaders stated.

The ASCSN praised the Ministry of Defence for its quick reaction and the mobilization of staff to find and save the kidnapped executives, encouraging the appropriate security organizations to increase their efforts and make sure those responsible are held accountable.

The union also demanded "increased government dedication to worker safety," emphasizing that the instability on main roads has turned into a significant danger to public service.

At the same time, the families of the abducted officials and colleagues within the Defence Ministry are reportedly experiencing anxiety while waiting for information about the ongoing rescue mission.

The kidnapping contributes to an increasing number of abductions aimed at government employees and experts throughout the nation, emphasizing the critical importance of enhanced security systems and more rigorous safety measures for public officials.
