A legal dispute has emerged as the family of the late Samuel Aboagye, a former Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has taken his wife, Abigail Salami, to court concerning a DNA issue.
The family is said to have approached the Obuasi District Court requesting a DNA test on a three-year-old child belonging to Abigail and Samuel Aboagye, in order to confirm whether the deceased was the child's biological father.
Helicopter Crash
Samuel Aboagye, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Obuasi East in the 2024 election, was one of eight individuals who perished in the helicopter accident that occurred near Obuasi on August 6, 2025.
As per reports, the remains of the eight deceased individuals were severely burned, making it nearly impossible to recognize them. Consequently, officials requested DNA testing to assist in identifying the bodies for burial.
Daughter’s DNA Request
After the series of events, the grieving family consequently asked Abigail to bring her three-year-old daughter with Samuel Aboagye for a DNA test in order to identify the burned remains of the deceased.
Abigail, who resides in the United States, was reportedly willing to allow her daughter to participate in the DNA test at first, but she is accused of changing her stance, as she did not permit her daughter, who lives in Ghana, to undergo the test.
Other Child Saves Situation
As per reports, after Abigail declined to allow her daughter to undergo the DNA test, the family had to contact another child of Samuel Aboagye from a different woman, who agreed to take the DNA test to assist in identifying the body.
The widow's choice to keep her child from undergoing the DNA test was reported to have sparked doubts within the grieving family, who remained silent at first.
Strange Divorce Request
DAILY GUIDEhas learned that Abigail, immediately following the funeral ceremonies of Samuel Aboagye, reportedly asked the grieving family to carry out the required rituals for a divorce between herself and the late Samuel Aboagye.
The grieving family reportedly found Abigail's request for a divorce to be premature and unusual, and thus opposed it.
They stated that according to Akan customs, a minimum of one year must elapse before conducting divorce ceremonies.
DNA Saga Pops Up
Nevertheless, Abigail remained determined to obtain an early divorce. Her determination and insistence caused doubt within the grieving family, who then requested Abigail to present her three-year-old child for a DNA test before approving the divorce.
Legal Tussle
As per reports, Abigail once more declined to assist the grieving family by providing her child for a DNA test, leading the family to initiate a legal action against her in a court located in Obuasi.
A relative of the deceased, who chose not to reveal their name for clear reasons, stated that the family believed the widow was concealing something after she requested an early termination of the marriage, leading to "our request for the DNA test."
He stated that the family has questions regarding the child's parentage, leading them to initiate legal proceedings against Abigail.
Meanwhile, the case has been postponed to December 23, 2025.
In a related update, unverified information suggested that the widow has also initiated another legal case, asking the court to prevent the grieving family from requesting a DNA test on her three-year-old child.
